Fall has arrived! Already the leaves have started to change colors and to fall. Leaf removal is a difficult and time-consuming job for homeowners and we would like to relieve that responsibility. Very soon, we will begin treating for grub prevention. Do you know why?
Grubs are the early stage of many beetles. Japanese beetle is one common beetle that most people in our area are familiar with which has a grub stage. Japanese beetles are about to hatch very soon be all over the place in your lawn. Besides the damage that the adults can do to the plants in your garden, their babies can have an equally negative impact on your lawn. As you will see in the diagram below, during July, the mother beetles will lay their eggs under the ground. These babies will soon hatch and begin to grow by feeding on grass roots! They love the roots of thick, healthy grass. This is why we need to apply preventative grub control on the lawn.

Because of the rain almost every day this week, we are running about two days behind schedule with some variations.
We will be mowing Saturday and Monday to catch up.
The variation is that some houses in Potomac, Rockville, and Gaithersburg have been delayed more than two days. This is due to the poor drainage on many of the lawns in that area which would cause damage with our mowers. We will do our best to finish all of these areas by Saturday. Germantown, Boyds, Clarksburg and Urbana will be done on Saturday or Monday.

The following image from weather.com shows that the average precipitation for May is 4.44 inches, where already this month we have received 6.02 (I don't know if that included today's storm). It has felt crazy but I had no idea that we were approaching 150% more than the average.
I recently had the opportunity to present at Roberto Clemente middle school’s annual Career Day. It was a joy to be able to communicate passionately about what we do to the kids. In my message about what I do as a manager of a lawn care company, it was my hope to instill in the kids a desire to love what they do, be it lawn care or rocket science.
